Florida Fresh has built one of the most comprehensive floral composting systems in the event décor industry, transforming organic waste into nutrient-rich compost that restores local soils instead of filling landfills.

This program drastically reduces methane emissions and keeps hundreds of thousands of pounds of floral waste out of the waste stream every year. It’s one of the most impactful actions we take toward a climate-positive future.

The Scale of Our Impact

Through structured sorting, processing, and composting, Florida Fresh diverts an estimated:

270,000 pounds of floral waste per year

Preventing approximately 92 metric tons of CO₂e that would otherwise be released as methane

Equivalent to more than 85 tons of material kept out of landfills

How Our Composting System Works

1 Production Table Sorting

As floral designs are created, all stems, petals, leaves, and greenery are placed into clearly labeled organics-only bins stationed at every design table.
No plastics, paper, foam, wire, tape, or ribbon are permitted to enter the compost stream.

2 Event Breakdown & Returns

When events return to our warehouse, floral materials are separated from vases, frames, hardware, and décor elements.
All organic materials are added to the compost system, while non-organics follow designated recycling or disposal pathways.

3 Compost Staging Zone

Bins are placed behind the warehouse in a dedicated compost staging area, secured from contaminants and weather.

4 Scheduled Pickups

O-Town Compost collects the floral waste twice weekly, transporting it to local composting facilities where it is processed into nutrient-rich soil amendments used by farms, landscapers, and community gardens.
